100+ Women put donation into supports for brain injured
Offering support for victims of and caregivers for those living with brain injuries will be the result of the latest gathering of 100+ Women who Care Annapolis Valley, as the Annapolis Valley Chapter of the Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia was the chosen charity June 13.
The women’s charitable group met for its quarterly event in Kentville’s Main Street Station. Dan Stovel, the Kings County regional emergency measures organization director, hosted a half-hour presentation and Q&A as the group gathered.
Connie Benjamin-Webster, representing the Valley BIANS chapter, described her own long, life-changing path living with a brain injury; and talked about how the In Roads program “saved her life” with support and social connections. The Valley group is small and offers programs and support where volunteers are able; 100 Women funding will ensure In Roads, which just started in Wolfville for 15 people, can continue for the next year. It will help the group secure program space and transportation resources.
Two other groups presented at this evening’s meeting: the Kentville Historical Society and the Wolfville Area Food Bank. The historical society opened a new interpretive centre in Kentville’s former train station in May, and plans to capture the community’s heritage inside and develop a community greenspace and historical panels outside. The Wolfville Food Bank continues to support one of the highest populations in Nova Scotia living in poverty with nutritious food provisions. Both groups received $1,000 advertising support credits with K-Rock.
